Billions of people around the world lack access to clean drinking water*, risking disease and death.
The P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) Program is a non profit initiative that began in 2004. The program helps raise awareness of the water crisis and provide clean drinking water to areas without access, especially during natural disasters or emergencies, using the P&G Purifier of Water packets.

Since the program began, P&G has partnered with more than 150 advocacy and implementing partners to deliver more than 22 billion liters of clean water* to communities in over 100 countries. By harnessing the power of clean water, families and children can maintain good health and unlock educational and economic opportunities t hat can help communities grow.

2.2 billion people around the world lack access to clean drinking water. Diarrhea caused by drinking contaminated water is still a leading cause of illness and death among infants and children in the developing world.*
Over 700 children under age 5 die every day of diarrhoeal diseases due to lack of appropriate WASH services*
The lack of clean water also contributes to many challenges in a community. Children frequently miss school from waterborne illnesses and parents struggle to provide for their families. Women and girls are especially affected as they disproportionately bear the burden for managing household water needs. Many walk kilometers each day to collect contaminated water, and they are often responsible for taking care of sick family members. This prevents many girls from attending school and getting an education that would allow them to have a brighter future.
The P&G Purifier of Water technology enables people anywhere in the world to purify dirty water in a simple, affordable and convenient way. A 4-gram packet, invented by P&G scientists in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, can transform dirty water to clean, drinkable water in only 30 minutes with just a bucket, a spoon and a cloth.
P&G manufactures the P&G Purifier of Water packets and collaborates with NGO partners worldwide to distribute them. These organizations are instrumental in educating and advocating for clean water access, as well as delivering the packets to communities without access to clean drinking water, including during natural disasters or emergencies.
P&G continues to support the CSDW Program with technical expertise, financial investment, human resources, and a state of the art manufacturing facility in Singapore that produces the P&G Purifier of Water packets. P&G is committed to fighting the clean water crisis in partnership with NGOs, governments, companies and consumers, with the goal of delivering 25 billion liters of clean drinking water by 2025.
Since 2004, the CSDW Program has provided P&G Purifier of Water packets in more than 100 countries across the Americas, Africa, and Asia.
Our partners play a vital role on the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program. We have worked with more than 150 organizations and collaborators to build awareness of the water crisis and provide clean water to families in need. Our largest NGO implementing partners include: CARE, ChildFund International, Save the Children, and World Vision.
