OUR IMPACT

We celebrated the 14 billionth liter with the G. family who lives in the Alhajuela Lake area. Along this river area, there are communities that do not have access to clean water and take their water directly from the river. In partnership with the Panama Canal Authority, we are providing training on how to use the packets and bringing the power of clean water to the more than 475 people in these five rural communities along the Canal.

Engaging with the G. family, it was easy to see how the program will help transform their life and simplify their daily routine. Instead of having to get water from the lake and boiling it, Dayana is pleased to know she can easily use one of the P&G Purifier of Water packets to transform her water and had a wide smile as she talked about using the sachet.

In rural Dominican villages known as "bateyes," impoverished Haitian families living near sugar mills struggle with limited access to clean water. Families, like Denia's, often face a daily dilemma: risk their children's health by using contaminated water or sacrifice household essentials to purchase clean water.

Through our partnership with Batey Relief Alliance, Denia and her family gained access to clean water in the bateyes. Denia describes the impact of the P&G Purifier of Water packets, "When you're raising small children, you simply can't afford giving them contaminated water, for they will get sick and die. For me and my family, the purifiers were a blessing."

In the past decade, Batey Relief Alliance, in partnership with P&G, has provided over 300 million liters of clean water, impacting over 100,000 people. Thanks to their efforts, families, such as Denia’s, have reported decreases in cases of water-borne diseases.

Sokhum and her daughter Channchu (age 11) live in a “floating” village. Thanks to World Vision, they have access to purification packets that make the river water clean for drinking at home and school. This has helped them feel better and enabled them to invest in their children's education.

We are marking our 20 billion liter milestone with Carrine, her husband and three children, Cameroonian refugees living in Amana, a community in Obanliku, a Local Government Area of Cross River State in Nigeria. Prior to the delivery of P&G Purifier of Water packets, Carrine’s children frequently fell ill to water-related diseases from drinking unsafe water in the community. Since receiving P&G water purification materials from Save the Children in September 2021, the number of visits Carrine has made to the clinic to treat her children for water-related illness has decreased, saving her money and enabling her children to attend school regularly.

We’re proud to celebrate this milestone anniversary with our charity partner HOPE who distributes much-needed P&G Purifier of Water packets in Pakistan to people like Allah B. and his family. Allah B. (75) lives with his wife Rahmia (70) their son Allah Rakha (45) and daughter-in-law Sakina (30) and their five children Rasheed (10), Salma (9), Razia (5), Ameeran (2) and Gulzar (11 months).

For nearly 18 months, the HOPE team has been distributing P&G packets in Allah B’s community. Volunteers from HOPE showed the family how to clean dirty and muddy water and provided buckets and the packets. Living in a remote village in Jam Sardar region, the community had to get their water from a nearby river. During rainy season, the water was quite dirty, and many people fell ill. Since the HOPE team has been regularly coming to the village and providing packets, education and training, people are not getting sick as often.

The family suffered repeated infections as a result of drinking dirty water, and the children were not eating well and losing weight. Since the family began using the packets, they have become ill less often. This has reduced their visits to the doctor and their medical expenses. And now in their community of about 1,500 people, nearly 80% of all households are using the packets to clean their water and are staying healthy. And encouragingly, infant deaths due to diarrhea has become a rare occurrence.

Leda, her three daughters, Estefany, Genesis and Karla and her five-year-old granddaughter Mahia felt the impacts of Hurricane Eta which devastated their community in Honduras.

After the hurricane, some communities felt abandoned. The only way they could access clean water was to send someone by boat to another area to buy it – a costly and logistically complicated solution.

In December 2020, Water Mission came to Leda’s community bringing the P&G Purifier of Water packets. Using water from the Ulua River, Water Mission educated Leda on how to use the packets to clean this dirty river water so Estefany, Genesis, Karla and Mahia wouldn’t have to drink the contaminated water.

Mary and her family in Kenya were the recipients of the 17 billionth liter of clean water provided by the CSDW Program. CSDW helps people like Mary, her husband Daniel, their two daughters, Celline and Lupita, son Keith and Vena, who is just 9 years old, immune-compromised and staying with Mary to have access to medical care. They live in western Kenya and benefit from the clean water brought to them by our Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program through our partnership with CARE International.

Mary’s life was forever changed when her sister was diagnosed with cholera after drinking untreated water. “Since then, my family only drinks water treated using P&G water purifier.”

For Mary, the transformation has been significant. “Clean water means that my children who are still very young have access to safe water at all times. We have not experienced any cases of diarrhea in this household since we started using P&G purifier of water.”
According to Mary, her community used to experience a lot of cholera cases, however since 2016 when they started using the packets, they have not had any cholera issues.
